Augustine Ortiz

Augustine Ortiz is the current Mariachi Director at Edgar Allen Poe Middle School at San Antonio ISD. This San Antonio native has been playing Mariachi since the 6th grade in SAISD. He has traveled the world bringing Mariachi music to other countries. He attributes his musical upbringing to the distinguished teachers he’s had the pleasure of studying with including Juan Ledezma, John Nieto,Roy Quintero, Gino Rivera, Juan Ortiz, Mike Guzman. He is the founder and Trumpet player for Mariachi Los Amores. On his spare time he enjoys dancing and spending time with his family and friends.

Francisco Yebra

Francisco Yerba, First started playing mariachi in the 6th grade and had seen this class as a way to just kick back and relax at school. As the years passed Francisco gained more experience and love for the music while playing through out the San Antonio area. He accredits his music to his hard work and drive to keep the music and culture alive. Francisco is also an Avid Fisherman and enjoys spedning time on his boat.

Joe Jimenez

Joe B Jimenez III began playing music at the age of 9. His musical Journey began on the Viola, which he played in the Orchestra at school. During his freshman year of high school Joe began playing the Guitarrón, Vihuela, and Guitar respectfully. In 2003, Joe graduated from John Jay High School and began to purse his Music learning at Palo Alto College in San Antonio; where he began to play the Violin. After his time at Palo Alto Joe moved to Our lady of the lake University where in 2006 received his medical assistant certificate. Joe returned to his love of music to teach at South San High School and Lanier High School. Joe is an avid performer in the San Antonio Area, loves the Lord, Family,long walks on the beach, and enjoys playing with the other members of Mariachi Los Amores.

Gilbert Sanchez

Gilbert Raul Sanchez is the current Director of Bands at Resnik Middle School in Southwest ISD. Mr. Sanchez was born in Corpus Christi and soon after, moved with his family to San Antonio. He graduated from Southwest High School in San Antonio where he played Saxophone and was a Drum Major in the Dragon Band. Mr. Sanchez holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio as well as his Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. When Mr. Sanchez began his career he served the Washington Irving community for 7 years, located on the westside of San Antonio in San Antonio ISD. During his time at Irving, Mr. Sanchez had some remarkable students who he was afforded the opportunity to work with, as well as life long colleagues who he began to learn the “Art of Teaching” from. Mr. Sanchez was named the “Rising Star” teacher of the year for Washington Irving MS in 2009; an award that goes to one first year teacher each year. In 2013, Mr. Sanchez was named the “Teacher of the Year” for Washington Irving Middle School. In 2018 Mr. Sanchez was named “Teacher of the Year” for Resnik, an award given to one outstanding teacher per school in Southwest ISD. Mr. Sanchez is a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, National Association for Music Education, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia National Music Fraternity. Mr. Sanchez enjoys spending time with his wife Maritza as well as his four dogs in San Antonio, performing throughout the San Antonio area with his Mariachi group, and most of all teaching music in the public school system.

Amanda Sanchez

Amanda Sanchez is a music Teacher currently at Edgewood ISD. Amanda was born in San Antonio and is 1st generation hailing from Lazaro Cardenas, Durango, Mexico. She graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio where she played Violin, Bass, and Baritone. Amanda holds a Bachelor’s in Billingual Education from the University of Texas A&M at San Antonio. Amanda has been playing music since she was 7. Shes been part of groups such as Mariachi Las Coronelas, Texas State's Mariachi Nueva Generacion, Texas State's Salsa del rio, Volcan and now currently Violin and Vocalist for Mariachi Los Amores. Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and boyfriend, as well as her two dogs (Billie and Chops). When shes not performing with Mariachi Los Amores shes playing in the powerhouse group VOLCAN!
